SC - Green beans

Okay folks,

I've read the big bean discussion with interest and some confusion. Would 
somebody please give me a "yes or no" answer? Are green beans period? I
would suspect that the canned/frozen green beans we get in the store aren't
but something like the chinese pea pods would be closer to what they served.

Lentils, favas, black-eyed peas, maybe navy beans, peas, split peas could be
used as close to period?

I'm needing vegetable dishes for 12th Night and I'm thinking a bean/pea dish
would be good filler as well as vegetarian main dishes.
