IMHO, anise exhibits an underlying flavor which is often associated with the
flavor exhibited by licorice. However, I would suggest tasteing star anise,
fennel, aniseed and licorice root side by side and I'm sure you will agree
that aniseed tastes like, well, aniseed....:-)
