Greetings Ivy,

Rose beads can be made with either fresh or dried rose petals. To make
them from fresh petals, you need to start with about a gallon of petals.
Shred them in a blender, ( the finer you shred, the smoother the
finished beads will be) add a small amount of water and place in an
iron skillet or dutch oven. Simmer over very low heat and stir
occasionally to keep them from sticking, until you have this nice black
goo that sme,lls of cooked roses. If you can squeeze water out opf the
goo it's still to wet. Allow to cool then form your beads about the size
of a smallish marble (they shrink as they dry.. at least 30%). Poke a
hole with a darning needle, place them in a pie tin and dryin a warm
place until completely hard... shake them around as they dry to turn
them for even drying. Drying will take a few days unless you do them in
the oven or dehydrator. (electric oven with the light on or the pilot
only in a gas oven.) They can be polished up with a piece of nylon
netting if you want. If the scent isn't to your liking place a drop of
rose essence in your hand and roll the beads in your palm. Too strong a
scent can be overpowering when you wear them, as your body heat wil help
release the scent.

If you have collected and dried petals, the method is the same, just add
more water to get to the mushy stage before heating, and add a couple
drops of rose essence to the goo before you roll the beads.

I have a set of my Great-grandmother's that still have scent, and a set
I made about 3 years ago.

Good luck,
Ceridwen
