This jogged a memory about the recent discussion of prunes vs. plums  that
the list had a little while back. I read something interesting in the History
of Food that might lend some light on the subject at leadt in regards to
period French recipes. It seems that the French have the word "prune"
meanings plums and the word "pruneau" meaning prunes. A quick look at the
original text should reveal whether prunes or plums were meant.
