Actually, I was tempted, when telling the story of Sir Mitchell MacB---I
mean the unnamed gentle who ruined all the knives, to point out that in
restaurant kitchens it is customary to refer to French chef's knives by
their measurements and their brand. This is so if someone borrows your
6-inch Sabatier, you can quickly ask who's got your 6" Sabatier.

I have, among my kitchen tools, not one, but two, 10-inch Dicks, which
is a source of unending mirth for the simple, earthy souls in my
Province. While I must say that there is always a place for a 10-inch
Dick, I prefer my antique 12" Medal d'Or for general cooking use...
