I would have been less likely to go to the event if I knew the feast was
not period, and I might have brought my own food and eaten off board if
that were an option. If I was there I would probably have stayed for the
feast.

Eat the feast, thank the cook--and try to find some convenient opportunity
to get him interested in period cooking.
