Actually the Gladius (Glaive) is male...

That I wouldn't make any comments. I'm afraid the term was transliterated 
from AD&D, so iits use is highly unreliable.

arsenal)

(AFAIK, in french a sword is a sword is a sword (-8   No distinctive 
names based on lenght in common usage...    Some on functionality whether 
it is meant primarly as stabbing or slashing...  'Course, the curvy guys 
and other thnic specialties keep their own names...
