I think that the perception may not be "overspiced" per se, just differently
spiced. I have overheard many under one year players comment on the
different spices that are used in our "cuisine". (Like cinnamon, and mace,
and grains of paradise with meat dishes, and pepper in fruit.) I get the
distinct impression that period food is confused with "gourmet" food in our
newcomers, or those who simply don't care what is served, just so it looks
"medieval" in their frame of reference.
