To point out the obvious, the wealthy had access to a large portion of New
Worlfd foods after 1500. With chilli peppers becoming the first major
agricultural crop from the New World in 1523. Potatoes were considerably
later and nobility percieved corn as an animal food. Kidney beans caught on
shortly AFTER chili peppers and Tomatoes were grown as ornamentals until well
after after the Elizabethan era. Potatoeswere recorded as an agricultural
crop in the LATE 1500's and then ONLY as a peasant food. I find , in lieu of
all this, how the use of New World foods can be justified at events under
any but the most extreme instances.

Ras (who has NEVER served a new world food at a single feast in 11 yrs.
except once when he put 1/2 tsp allspice in a dish in ignorance.)

much like the noodles that Marco Polo brought back from China, >>
