I am Ivy's girlfriend, and a slovak. pierogi in my family meant three
things:
A small ravoli size noodle dough pocket stuff with anything. favorites
in my family were prunes, apricots and potato and cheese
same as above only made with bread dough.
A pagach (pizza size) pocket with potato, cheese and cabbage or
saurekraut.

i was raised by my grandmother and she made all three. traditionally served
as a part of the christmas eve feast, which is a meat less meal. there are
several recipes that are old such as the mushroom soup also served.

places to look: i have found the recipes in literature about the slovak
christmas eve feast. i have also found some recipes at a web site.
byzantine catholics have a strong slovak influence. I am also one of those.
Thier church cookbooks have the recipe. I am going home in October, if you
can't find it let me know. i will get it from gram.
i just looked at the web site and the recipe is there.. i couldn't remember
if it was. the site is for st. anne's bzantine catholic church:
