                      RE>O-T laurels 9/25/97

Interesting... until I heard Adamantius' happy news a short time ago, I was
under the distinct impression that one COULD NOT GET a Laurel for cooking...
I don't know if this is a Westie thing exclusively; or if it is one of those
SCA "urban legends," like "they always knight any unbelted fighter who wins
Crown" (which is decidedly untrue!)... but I have been in for 14 years and had
it relayed to me on several occasions that cooking was considered a service,
and not an art/science.
Any insights on this? Could this be (like the absence of Rapier Laurels) a
West thing? Or was I just sadly misinformed?

What is a Rapier Laurel? Since Rapier fighting has yet to be included in the
West, if it has to do with that skill, I would assume that is why it doesn't
exist here... As for the always belting a fighter who wins Crown, I have it on
good authority that they do always offer, sometimes the person turns it down-
if they have the honor to realize that is the main reason they are getting it
at that time and wish to prove themselves by their reign first. I do not know
if there are no Laurels in the West for cooking, but seeing as there do seem
to be fewer feasts and less interest in cooking here than I see refered to in
other Kingdom's posts, perhaps it is just one of those percentage things?

(who wishes there were as many feasting events here as there seem to be out
there in the rest of the Known World)
