                      RE>>SC - re:  late feasts/cooking laurels    9/25/97

<snip> or so feasts she's attended, 2 were virtually inedible. It doesn't
take many inedible feasts before autocrats decide not to bother budgeting for
a feast at all, especially if the local culture doesn't demand it.

Stop! You're reducing an old man to tears! (Well, a youngish guy with a
sprinkling of salt to his pepper, anyway...)
<snip>

I am not so sure it is local culture *not* demanding it, so much as just not
knowing such potential exists. The current Prince of the Mists, and King of
the West are doing a little to counter this, tho' I do not believe with the
conscious promotion of *cooks* in mind. But Prince Brand, having a true early
period generousity has hosted a feast at West Antir War (I wasn't there mind
you, just relaying rumors), which he hunted boar for himself, and will be
doing so again this weekend at the Mist/Cynagua war. And King Uther is
hosting a half pot-luck/ half "I will have food for 100 men" feast at the
upcoming Crown in two weeks.
afterall, all we do out here is fight!!
