Regarding Cariadoc's statements concerning cheese and eggs being kept without
benefit of chilling, some cautionary notes:

If you buy your eggs at the local grocery store, the likelihood is that said
cackleberries will be at least 90 days old when you buy them. Keeping eggs of
this age for more than a few hours above 40-45 degrees Fahrenheit will almost
guarantee a case of Pennsic Plague (a common term used for light cases of food
poisoning, among other camp-borne illnesses). If you have access to well-
washed farm-fresh eggs, by all means, keep them at ambient air temperature and
enjoy.

As to cheese, there are some types of cheeses which will keep just fine at
ambient air temperature. Hard cheeses like cheddar, swiss, and romano won't
give you much trouble beyond a little discoloration. But, again, if you are
taking along grocery-store packaged cheeses like monterey jack or mozzarella,
they will likely melt on you if kept above 60 degrees for any length of time.
This goes double for any of the currently-favored "fat-free" or "lite"
cheeses, which will become a mass of whatever chemically-enhanced binder was
used to create them.

Camping sans cooler can be done, efficiently and effectively, but only if you
know your foodstuffs. Please err on the side of caution to avoid making the
whole camp very ill.

Walk in peace,
Wolfmother
