An observation on the Andalusian translation in the Miscellany> The transaltor
seems to equate 1 uqiya with 1 once. According to my calculations 1 ratl (16
ounces or 32 tablespoons) divided by the 12 uqiyas in a ratl brings the amount
of 1 uqiya to one and a third ounces (or two and two thirds tablspoons). This
is a significant difference when tranferred to the redaction process and makes
a significant difference in the flavor of the finished dish.

Are my calculations inaccurate or are there differing opinions regarding the
weight/size of the ratl? The calculations as presented in Andalusian cookbook
appear to be based on a troy pound while those in al-Baghdadi seem to be based
on the English pound. Which interpretation is more accurate in your opinion?
