Good point, Mistress! Animal manures from herbivores USUALLY do not carry
human pathonogens unlike those from carnivores such as dogs and cats. Omnivore
manures such as those derived from birds and humans should only be used after
thorough composting. Manures should be composted thoroughly. The heat
generated by a well regulated compost pile will kill the weed seeds. Of all
amimal manures horse manure probably contains more undigested seeds than any
other. If you feel that you must put the uncomposted manure on the garden, do
so in the fall and winter months and turn your soil thoroughly in the spring.
Then be prepared to weed. :-)
