I associate it with fat, the "mouthfeel" of the fat.  Which isn't the same as
greasiness.  It's a taste and feel of lots of high quality fat, not
necessarily spices--shortbread can be quite "rich" and there's not a bit of
spice in many recipes--just butter, sugar, flour and some salt.
