Ok; a general translation of some Australian sweets:

Smarties; multicoloured iced disks of chocolate
Flakes; chocolate in a compacted flaky sort of stick -boy that is hard
to describe
Skittles; tart round fruit candies
M&Ms; multicoloured iced disks of sugary chocolate or multicoloured iced
balls of sugary chocolate with peanuts inside
Crunchies; honeycomb bar covered in chocolate
Strawberries and Cream; jelly sweet with a 'milk' oval with a red jelly
berry on top
timtam; two rectangular chocolate biscuits (cookies) with chocolate
icing in the middle and completely coated in chocolate (bite off
opposite corners and use as a straw for butterscotch schnapps, kahlua,
even tea; fabulous)
gingernut; VERY hard biscuit (cookie) flavoured with ginger that is
fabulous dunked in tea
Snowballs; balls of marshmallow coated in chocolate and rolled in
coconut
Chikos; a jelly type sweet in the shape of a little man, kind of
chocolate flavoured
Jubes; hard jelly sweets covered in sugar
Turkish delight; a slab of chewy turkish delight coated in chocolate
Minties; (do you have minties?) a very chewy mint in a kind of rough
cube shape
Snakes; long snake shaped jellies that you can buy in either small
(10cm) or large (30cm) sizes
Maltesers; malt balls covered in chocolate
Jaffas; large balls of chocolate covered in orange flavoured icing
(traditionally rolled down the wooden aisles of picture theatres I am
told)

the reason that I like Smarties over m&ms is that the chocolate in m&ms
is much more sugary than that in Smarties. I don't like hersheys kisses
(which can be found here but not easily) for the same reason; they are
over sweet and not chocolatey enough for me.

There. There are of course thousands more that I haven't listed, but eh,
who cares?
