This is topic which is  debatable. There are indications that oil/egg/vinegar
combos were used in period. However, one group states that they were never
whisked together in the way we know mayonaise today. The other side believes
that it was known as early as Ancient Greece (Jeff Smith is of this
persuasion).

So there you have it> mayonaise may or may not be period. :-)
