1 quart = 4cups = 48 tablespoons = 192 teaspoons
1% of 192 = roughly 2tsp.  which sounds about right, if a little salty
But 1% of 100 gallons = 1 gallon
That sounds downright briny
?
Now that just doesn't compute.
We used to cook very large amounts for fund raisers.  Used fifty gallon
kettles.  Never used more than two cups salt per kettle, but I often make a
half gallon of soup with two teaspoons of salt.  
Never thought about it like that.  Wonder why that is?
