My Big Mama never baked her scones.  She kept a large cast iron frying pan
especially for cooking them on top of the stove.  With a properly seasoned fry
pan you don't need to add oil to the pan to "dry fry" them.  Just place in the
pan on low heat and cook on each side until golden brown.
