I know, it's off topic, but it is history of sorts...

The twelve days of Christmas (contrary to popular belief) do not start
until December 25th. They refer to the days in between which the
Christ-child was born and the three kings brought their gifts. ie: The days
between Christmas (dec. 25th) and Epiphany (Jan. 6)

This was traditionally the time when people (at least the nobility) would
host huge parties, and invade each others homes for the holidays... ignore
the coincidence of this being celebrated during the pre-christianity Yule
festivals...
