I have a question regarding this comment, are you referring to the
original bird which was the turkey cock, or as we know them guinea fowl,
or it's new world cousin?  In my research I have found that they were
both called turkey due to the strong resemblance and guinea hens were
known to Europeans as turkey when the American bird was presented.  I
have not come across the reference you mention and would be very
interested in checking that idea out.
