These beans sound more like black-eyed peas which are not Phaseolus. However,
it may indicate that those particular peas were introduced to Europe from
Africa within period which is , IIRC, your postition from an earlier post.

In the long run, it appears that people have obscured and muddied many ares in
agricultural research whether by design or no. It is amazing how agriculture,
which is the entire basis for human society as it has existed for the past
several thousands of years, can be so filled with unknowns and speculation. It
is a travesty that more careful records were not kept and attempts made to
preserve that history more carefully. As it is, we have little to work from
except speculation, circumstancial evidence and obscure texts.
