Sorry folks; I tried again this weekend to read the article and I just 
*couldn't* finish it.  I got through the first part (on potatoes) just 
fine; but...  <sigh>

The article, as far as I could understand, was focusing on contamination, 
particularly the e.coli thing:  they pointed out that until a couple of 
decades ago it hadn't been a risk but thanks to techniques since adopted, 
most hamburger now is in danger of e.coli contamination, etc., etc.

I don't know how much of this is reportage and how much is "shock-jock" 
technique; because I have to confess to a certain amount of squeamishness 
that kept me from reading the damn thing through.  That's why I was hoping 
for some intelligent discussion on the subject...

Ah well.  So much for my ability to introduce a conversation topic...  ;-)
