SC - I might be getting a new oven

Hi Phillippa,

I bought my new electric just a year ago, and got the ceramic top because
everyone said I'd love it, and I 'had to have it!' I hate it. It rules
my life. You are not supposed to let one grain of salt or sugar melt on
it, and it has to be cleaned constantly with special cleaners and
equiptment. I have bought thick, plain white paper towels that live
beside it, a scraper that lives in the drawer next to it, and the little,
highly expensive bottle of cleaner. When the cleaner soaks into the
stuff you think you didn't spill, you can carefully use the scraper, at a
very shallow angle. Then you use more cleaner and half a dozen paper
towels, several times, bending every which way to see the surface at an
angle, looking for any tiny smear! Takes longer to clean the top
completely than to cook the meal.

You definately can not drag a heavy pot across it! I have a half inch
long scrape on one of my burners from not being careful enough. It gets
much hotter than the coil, and everything burns.

I do love the convection oven it has, but the controls are in the front.
I'm short and full-busted, and every time I reach over to stir or wipe,
everything turns on from the digital front pad and beeps, boops, and
hollers at me. The convection oven, for example, baked evenly 6 pans of
bread, evenly browned, no switching of pans. Because the hot air is fan
circulated, there are no 'dead spots' for unevenly cooked food. My old
oven--and it was old--kept giving me slanted top cake layers. Same
cakes, same pans, convection oven, everything is nicely even.

If I could go back and repeat, I'd buy the regular electric stove at a
third of the price, but I would pay the extra for the convection oven.

Don't succumb to consumerism!!! And good luck!
