In answer to whether this 'Honey' recipe would have been used as a substitute
for the real thing after seeing the recipe for this, I would conclude that it
would be highly unlikely that a honey substitute such as this would have been
'period' based on the amount of sugar alone which was very expensive in the
Middle Ages and used most commonly as a spice or a medicine. The funds needed
to purchace this amount of sugar would have bought enough real honey to last a
vary long time.

Such a concoction could have concievably been used for medicines by an
apothocary though. Does anyone have any evidence that flavored sugar syrups
were used in this manner?
