Actually though, human skin amazes me.  Back in January I had a 
catastrophic cookware failure and got 2nd (at least) degree burns
on the top half of one finger.  (One of those lids with the handle
attached by a screw through a hole, which finally decided to
come apart while it was still full of LOTS of grease and steam.)

A bit of neosporin, a lot of teeth gritting to get through the first
few days, and now it's healed.  Not just that, but the scars are only
visible if you KNOW what you're looking for.  It was neither pleasant
nor a desirable experience, but it reminded me that the human body 
has some really neat abilities....

I don't know about any thing else but the candy burns I have received
are the worst.  I was making hard candy and some dribbled down the sides
of the pan onto my foot and ran between my toes!  Youch!
