SC - Period foods (coffee and tea) My $.02

Warning:

THE FOLLOWING POST IS MY OPINION, IT CAN DIFFER FROM OTHERS AND I DO NOT
FEEL OFFENDED IF YOU DISAGREE, JUST DO IT NICELY!

I amy not be a SP (stuffy purist) yet, but I think I have to agree and
disagree with some comments out there.

I think what alot of people were talking about (and how the thread on
coffe and tea started) was serving coffee and tea at a feast. I
personally try and make the feasts that I serve as close to a period
recipe as possible. When I create a feast I want everything to be
perfect. If that makes me anal about some issues then fine, that is how
I want to share the SCA with others when I serve them dinner. Yes i
know that buying my meat at a supermarket is not period.... But I make
do with what I have.

Now, on the other hand, at my camp site I have coffee and tea, I serve
it in mugs so people can not tell what i am serving unless their noses
lead them to the same conclusion. I also have a coleman stove, and a
non-period tent. I do what I can with what I have. I can't afford a
pavillion, and my basic desire of "feed the masses, have them leave full
and happy" is my campsite etiquette. If you enter my encampment to eat,
I am not trying to create a feast for royalty, I am feeding my friends.
My friends enjoy certain foods and drinks, and that is what I will serve
them. If, someday, (don't anyone get any ideas) someone asks me to host
a breakfast feat, then I will read through the books and determine what
should be served.

In my camp I am host of my ideals. In a feast kitchen, I am the host of
the SCA ideals. The two join together at times, but they do not always
run hand in hand.

Again, this was my opinion, burn me at the stake if you wish, just
remember burning the meat removes all the fat an taste from it....
