SC - Periodicity

I really wish you would back this thread down a bit. As Cariadoc said (oh
no, I'm agreeing with him AGAIN), none of us is capable of being completely
period in all respects. For my part, I started out using real leather, not
the hide of the mysterious Nauga, for my garb accessories, but I freely
admit I use modern tools and dyes to get my effects. As far as garb goes, I
stick with basic T-tunics, and am moving from sweat-type pants to hand sewn
period types. I'm learning period cooking styles from the many wonderful
people on this list.

In the meantime, I'm researching period tanning, weaving, and dyeing
techniques, learning a little bit at a time. My studies are leading me into
herbal lore for garb, healing, and food, my blacksmithing started on a coal
forge, but I'm learning how to make charcoal in order to be more period,
and everything is leading me into something else, even including teasing
Cariadoc. My ultimate goal is to have garb made from plants I grew and
animals I bred, and making it with tools I forged or built with other tools
I made, and to wear it to serve a feast which is completely period, and for
which I have also produced the ingredients.

Obviously, this won't happen today, or tomorrow, or for many tomorrows, but
the joy for me is in striving for the ideal. How does a pygmy eat an
elephant? One bite at a time.
