I don't know how equivalent it is but, the Alpine Strawberry is a nice wild
species of strawberry native to Europe and readily available at most retail
seed outlets and most good seed supply companies in the States.. BTW, it is
also the only strawberry that can be started from seed, IIRC. The berries have
a nice strwberry flavor and the berries are slightly bigger than Native
American strawberries. Once naturalized they will come back and multiply each
year.
