I do not know how you got that impression. To the best of my recollection I
have never told the "standard" (and wildly inaccurate) account of the
events in question.

What you might be remembering is my saying that I had refrained from giving
the accurate account in print, because I thought a situation with a variety
of inconsistent verbal traditions about historical events was historically
appropriate.

My appologies Master Cariadoc for putting words in your mouth. I have
gone through the files where I thought I had yours and other messages
relating this particular story, but I do not find the message I thought
I had remembered. Nor do I find as much material on this story as I
thought I had.
