Following that train of thought I am very interested in raised bed
gardening in a Medieval context. Specifically I would like to find out
what plants were grown together for mutual benefit of the plants, assuming
that Europeans sowed veggies like some ancient Amercans did with squash,
corn and beans. When planted together the squash leaves shade the ground,
retaining moisture for the beans and corn while the beans (on vines) would
use the corn stalks for support. I am wondering if something similar
occurred in Europe, specifically the British Isles.
