While these are the first messages that I have seen that mentioned how to
make lye from ashes (other than a remembered story from grade school), you
might be interested in checking out these files in my Florilegium. I
believe most of these start with manufactuered lye but that might be
preferable at first. I’ve heard that making soap is sometimes iffy. Even
for experienced people, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. So
minimizing the variables at first might be best.
