Just a quick thought, anything in the Torah is fair game (old testament)
since the last of the writers is pegged well within period.  or mayhaps
pre-period.  Therefore you could start with easy things like matzah.
There is a reason that Jews usually only eat this at passover.  There are
only two ingredients allowed to be in true matzot, bread and water.  That
is why it tastes so blooming boring.  In the same vein, it makes things
easy to recrate.  If there is an orthodox community near you someone there
could probably help point out more legal items.
