:
: I think the idea of cooking everything in advance and getting your group
: to vet it all is a great one. The Eoforwic Culinary Guild about 15
: years ago did this all the time, and we had a lot of fun with it. The
: people at the feasts who praised the food usually didn't realize it was
: EVEN BETTER the first time around.
:
: My personal gripe with feasts is that after nearly 30 years of them, I
: am unwilling to sit in one place waiting for food, usually in noisy
: surroundings, for hours on end. I would like the feast to last no more
: than an hour and a half, and for all the food to be brought out in two
: or three courses, not dish by dish with very long gaps in between.
:
: Even well-cooked and well-organized feasts are usually too long for me.
: I realize this has a lot to do with the amount of space and the number
: of people in the kitchen preparing and setting out the food -- I've done
: my share of serving and organizing service over the years and know that
: this is almost always a bottleneck, and usually unavoidable.
: Understanding this does not make a two hour or more feast any more
: enjoyable to me.
:
: Sometimes people like me (y'know, people with shiny hats) are accused of
: "not supporting the group" if we eat off board. It's not a lack of
: support of the group so much as the wish to eat in a timely manner,
: maybe in a slightly less noisy environment. At one of the last events I
: went to we walked about a mile to a Thai restaurant. The walk was a
: sheer pleasure.
