I wonder when they came to be called "scotch" eggs?  I have several late
19th and early 20th cen. cook books and the only recipe I can find is for
Eggs in Sausage meat in the Blue Book of Cookery dated 1941.  It calls for
eggs sausage meat crumbs and a raw egg and the eggs are deep fried and
served with brown sauce.
