In a message dated 98-01-08 12:34:17 EST, you write:

<< The average serf, and many of
the nobility as well, were Christian in church, but still pagan in belief.

This is coorect. Unfortunately those who win the war write the history and we
know have a vast body of written records showing Christianiyy as the all
encompassing force of the Middle Ages..which is of course incorrect. To base a
the overall social and cultural practises of the Middle Ages on the writings
of a few monks and church officials who had an agenda is both rediculous and
obsurd. When confronted such "evidence" of the churches influence I always
remind the ignorant that the Isle of Man did not see a Christian priest until
1650 c.e. And there would have been no need for the laws that utimately
destroyed over 12,00,00 pepole ,(9,000,000 of whom were women) if the practice
of non-Christian faiths were not widespread.
