SC - Ice Cream

Greetings. I am not posting from home so I can't find the specific information but you
may want to look for Elizabeth David's book which details the history of ices and ice
cream from the Renaissance through modern times. It originally started as several
articles ("The Savor of Ice and Roses") in Petits Propos Culinaires. I'm sure someone on
the List must have a copy of her book and can post it for reference. She (if I am not
mistaken or mis-reading) pretty well shows that what we know as ice cream didn't appear
until well after period. The ices that were developed were not really that solid and
were only partially frozen. If I recall correctly, these didn't start until the early
1600s in Italy. Can anyone fill in more details since I'm gone from home until next
week?

Alys Katharine
