SC - blood oranges

I found blood oranges at the super market today.  Since I am hosting tomorrow
night's cook's guild I thought the oranges would be a nice addition to the
evening.  I know that blood oranges had some significance, medievally, but I
can't remeber what. Cann anyone help me?  Thanks Phillipa Seton
