His Grace Duke Cariadoc asked how coffee-making artifacts differed from
other artifacts (In response to Bear)

I think I can answer. My coffee grinder differs from an almond grinder in
that the one for coffee has coffee grounds in it. The almond one doesn't,
as a rule.

On the other hand, if coffee is known, but expensive and restricted to
the wealthy, AND there is a small question over whether it is an
intoxicant, then it is concievable that a person such as Lord Ras (seems
a slightly odd title, but never mind) would be in the habit of offering
it to all his guests all the time, just to show what a wealthy and
generous person e is. Of course one would expect a fair proportion of
said guests to turn up their noses at this strange sstuf that a mad
persian makes them drink until their hands shake, their bladders hurt and
they are unable to sleep for hours, except by going for things clearly
known to be intoxicants ;)

Tongue firmly in cheek (scraping at cuskynole leftovers. I'll bring some
under the rock if you like)
