It’s the engineering training. Or maybe that came second...
Or maybe old Stefan’s just a bit slow sometimes. :-)

In this case, would they not be diluting it back to wine strength once
the tax had been paid?

Where do we find evidence of this? I wouldn’t think they would do this
openly. And why does no evidence show up again for another thousand
years? Or does it? Perhaps this distilling was forgotten and re-invented

later.

When is the first evidence of brandy being used in food?
