I think that is a rule for when other people shouldn't worry about it, not
when you shouldn't worry about it. I haven't figured out how to get ten
feet away from myself yet.

More seriously, it seems to me that there are two different reasons to be
concerned with authenticity. One is that your inauthenticity may make the
game less fun for others--from that standpoint something like the ten foot
rule (the Enchanted Ground version is "nothing that is obviously and
unnecessarily out of period") makes sense. But the other reason is that
trying to figure out how things were done in period and do them that way is
fun and interesting--as well as sometimes making the game more fun for
others. So far as that reason is concerned, there is not even a ten inch
rule.
