Probably they gave the poor and the the local nuns and monks more leftovers
than they gave the pigs....pigs were fattened on acorns for the most part. Raw
vegetable scraps would most likely have been thrown out the back door to the
chickens....Traditionally the used trenchers were gathered to gether on Feast
days and loaded in a cart and put outside the castle gates for the poor.
