I occasionally use al-Sayyid but have been told on a few occasions that it
sounds pretentious.  So the happy medium is to use both interchangeably.
Thereby making the Eurocentric barbarians happy half the time and reminding
them that I hail from more civilized lands the other half. After all, were it
not for the Middle Eastern influence in fashion, food, spicery and to a lesser
extent medicine and technology, the barbarians to the North would still be
running around in skins and tearing at raw flesh for sustenance. :-)

Ras ( who has even heard it said that the Northern barbarians eat their own
children. :-0)
