Sea mammals and fetal rabbits were also allowed. Whale oil would have been an
additional fat that would have been used. The History channel has a very
informative program on this month dealing with the history of whaling,
including a section about whaling in the Middle Ages. I found it to be very
interesting.
I realize that sea mammals are unavailable in the Modeworld in most civilized
countries but they were a major source of cheap protein and oil throughout a
good portion of history until this century.
