I recall reading that the "people were smaller in the Middle Ages" myth
came about in part because museums often did not display the armor
correctly. The various pieces of armor would be set, one atop the other, on
the stand, with no gaps left to allow for mobility. That is, the torso
armor came down over the leg armor, and the helmet was set directly onto
the body armor. Can you say "no neck"? I knew you could! It wasn't until
people began studying the way armor actually moved and protected that they
realized their mistake.

No, of course I don't remember where I read it  :-(. I think it was a kid's
book though.
