Tularemia, a disease that is transmitted (along with Rocky mountain
Spotted fever) to rabbits, by the "Rabbit tick" (Haemaphysalis
leporispalustris), which is "Common on rabbits from Alaska to Argentina.
It ocassionally feeds on domestic animals, but rarely feeds on humans."
(_Foundations in Parasitology_, Roberts and Janovy. WCB publishers. 1996.)
The genus of tick has about 150 species workldwide, and only two in
N.America, but it doesn't say anything about the parasite being anywhere
else. Most of the other ticks in this genus occur in Asia, Africa, and
the East Indies.
