SC - Need to fix grape press

Hi,

    I have a grape press that needs to be fixed.  It is missing
the actual flat pressing plate and whatever connects it to
the vertical metal post.   What should these parts look like
and be made from?
    Also, what's a food safe way to seal a wood crack?  What's
a food safe way to finish wood such as a wooden bowl?
