Depends how big the crack is. Some glues are food safe. Don't use PVA
(Areldite) because although food safe it is not waterproof. Beeswax is a
possibility. 

A good finish for wooden utensils is food oils. Sand well with fine grade
sandpaper, wipe over with a tack rag (or damp cloth) then rub in oil (eg
olive oil) with fine steelwool. Let it stand in the sun to help the
absorbtion. Reapply the oil every so often to avoid cracks (scrub well and
dry out first).

Can't help you on the grape press, but I'm sure someone else knows!
