     Well... I'm a brunette and I'm also a baronial seneschale. Is 
     seneschale work what you meant by the "hard way?" Probably not.

     Seriously, I thought I'd found a reasonable facsimile of cone sugar in 
     the King Arthur Flour catalogue, but it's compressed raw sugar. The 
     local cooking laurel here, Mistress Michaele del Vaga, told me that 
     the sugar would have been refined, in keeping with the medieval 
     noble's desire to have everything pure and white (such as flour). I'm 
     wondering how they refined it in period. Any comments? Thanks muchly.

     (stubby myopic brunettes are far more evil than towering redheads. We 
     have to be. It takes a lot of planning and effort to jump up and whack 
     a villain in the kneecaps.)
